Mediterranean Wines was founded by Andreas Afxendiou in 2004 for the purpose of supplying Central Florida with high quality Greek wines.

Andreas was educated in England and received a bachelor degree in computer science at the University of Central Florida in 1984. After receiving his degree he moved back to his home country, Cyprus, where he worked as a programmer / analyst in a software company. In 1987 he decided to immigrate to the U.S. and in 1988 he developed and operated a small restaurant chain specializing in Greek food.

The 2004 Olympics, coupled with dramatic improvement in wine quality, presented an opportunity for establishing a distribution company that would specialize in Greek wines. The new wine makers in Greece are educated in France, California and Australia and are using new technologies and modern wine methods ( together with old traditions) to craft world class wines. The numerous microclimates of Greece, the diversity of its soil types, and the hundreds of distinctly different indigenous grape varieties, offer tremendous opportunities to produce unique wines that can be found only in Greece. It only takes a taste to be convinced.

Since 2003 there have been a number of articles written in publications such as Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, Wine & Spirits, Food & Wine etc praising newly discovered Greek Wines. At a recent tour of Greece, Master Sommeliers from the U.S were very impressed with Greek wines. They wrote that Greece is one of the hottest upcoming wine regions in the world.

Since its inception, Mediterranean Wines has been growing rapidly with distribution only offered in local Greek restaurants. We now offer more than 100 different wines from some of the best wineries in Greece. Our customer base expanded to include such restaurants as Luma on Park, McCormick & Schmick, Mythos at Universal Studios, Disney / Epcot, Flemings, Seasons 52 and others. Some of the best wine shops in Orlando carry our wines. I.e. Tim’s Wine Market, Park Wine Merchants, Maitland Wine Market, Old Vines, Global Grapes, Cavanaugh’s, and Nora’s at Lake Ivanhoe. Our wines are available at Whole Foods and Harmoni Market.

In addition to the Orlando area we are also distributing to the Tampa Bay area and the St. Augustine/Jacksonville markets. In January 2007 we will start servicing Fort Lauderdale/Miami.
We sponsor regular wine tastings with our customers and participate in many social and business events such as The Taste of Winter Park, March of Dimes Signature Chefs, Cystic Fibrosis Wine Opener, and more. Mediterranean Wines is successfully promoting Greek wines throughout
Florida and gaining a larger customer and consumer base.

We currently have the most diverse and largest Greek Wine portfolio in the United States. Our goal is to continue that leadership roll by expanding to more market areas and continuing to provide our customers with great service.
